Blindness The staircase was enormous. My feet were hurting so much they seemed to bleed. That’s it. Blood. That’s the trail I was leaving. I found the darkness odd. I found the noises coming from outside strange. But what outside? I thought. I couldn’t see it. I started running. Maybe trying to suffer less. The sooner I reached the top, the sooner I’d see the light. Now, it wasn’t my feet that felt the pain, but my eyes. They burned in such a way it seemed they were going to melt. I had arrived.
